but usually dates opens up if any cancellation. check vfs site often. nowadays it is easier to get appt than it used to be.

Not much idea about Australia but you don't want to go Down Under. It's very racist and discriminatory in every aspect. Besides, the accent.... OMG... simply unbearable :mad:

All in all Oz is a bigger hell. The only thing good there is the 3 Bs - Beer, Beaches and the Babes. But you better stay away from them because they are not very approachable for the people of color.
I work with a lot of people from OZ, they tell me it is not as bad as it sounds, but then, if we enter their space, the treatment would be different I guess.

Since getting an appointment at the US Consulate requires a prior payment of visa fees at a Consulate designated bank, I would apprecitae if you would let me know how this process works: I.e: (1) How to pay the visa application fee and the visa issuance fee at that bank; and (2) how to book an appointment at the Consulate at Kolkata. The VFS website is good for FAQ. Also, their email reply service is appreciable as I had my doubts cleared in 24 hrs cycle. You can also call them, they DO answer. The dates keeps changing because, I think, of cancellations and other eventualities. Usually, people make appointments anticipating , and keep changing it as their schedules change. You can reuse your payment id for 1 year and hence one could make appointment for a date, KEEP LOOKING, and if you find another suitable, then cancel and reschedule right away. I believe the calendar is live or almost live. They do allow emergency appointments but I am not clear wehther you could do it from here or you need to be present there. Typically, if you have a good travel agent/company, they can handle it better in your favor.

H1b does not exactly make one work "freely" in the US. Certainly not, if the employer is processing your GC as you are pretty much stuck with him.
Only L-1A allows faster GC processing as it does not require Labor and PDs are usually current. L-1B has no such short-cuts and is also plagued by the problem that it is valid only for 5 years. So if you cannot get into a 485 stage within those 5 years, then you are in trouble. On the other hand, a H-1b can be extended indefinitely once you cross a certain point in your GC processing.
So evaluate your options.
If you cannot renew L1, you can go back and work offshore. Remember that GC application is valid even if you are not in country and the process would continue (because GC is for future employment). This option is not bad when the company that sent you on L1 treats you well and you do not want to leave the company. Working at home while your GC is in process appeals to many who want a break from this lengthy and back breaking process.

You should contact senator, congress man to protest about it. It's better to spend time in contacting them then standing in DMV's queue time again. Use your IV's local chapter and initiate a drive to meet law makers.

After reading the alert on immigration-law.com website I contacted my firm's attorney. According to them they have requested 3yrs extension based on my approved I-140. Now since the dates are current, they may grant either 3yr or 1yr extension. But, they won't deny the h1 extension petition.

Please be aware that experience gained at sponsoring employer can not be counted towards fulfilling minimum qualification requirement for labor certification. You must prove your qualification to the job prior to joining the sponsoring employer... minor details.
So if you are planning to file a new EB2 application with same employer, just count your experience till the point you joined the company, anything afterwards is not admissible.

we need to be careful and review all aspect of issues with mgr and HR before leaving service companies. If we really want to come and work in US then come as independent companies on H1. People keep quite and say 'yes' for everything until H1 is filed in offshore and once a high paid offer comes then leaving and start saying 'sue' this company etc.
they pay fees for H1/air-fares/insurances for commitment for onsite work for some period. If person A goes out, they have to invest same amount of $ on new person B to get there and loosing credit at client also. Are these factors not overhead to these kind of companies?
Becoming so much emotional for money matters is quite common. Be practical and think wisely and negotiate peacefully with HR/MGR. Sending mails with lot of anger and threats to companies etc really don't much help in practical life and things go worse. this kind of stories is not first time and has been going for many years, think it from both sides.

How did the attorney sign the form when you had not signed.
I had to visit my attorney's office and sign all the paperwork in his office before he filed my app.
I belileve if the attorney is remote, then he needs to send fedex package to sign the docs.
Attorney signs only as a rep if there is legal issues or court apperance is required.
Applicants signature is used to prepare the EAD card . USCIS scans the signature of applicant.
